Amanda Hernandez, Del Valle ISD

October 2025’s Staff Spotlight is Amanda Hernandez! Amanda is the Enrichment Program Specialist at Gilbert Elementary (Del Valle ISD), where she gives students a chance to explore exciting activities and helps ignite lifelong passions for everything from cheer and chess to dance and robotics.

Amanda credits her inspiration for education to her mother, who spent 37 years in the field. Her mother’s work gave Amanda the opportunity to see the difference caring adults can make in children’s lives. 

For Amanda, her proudest moment comes when a student comes out of their shell to try something new. Watching a student’s face light up when they find confidence and motivation in a new activity inspires Amanda’s work. She’s also proud that her enrichment programs provide a safe space for students to explore new and exciting opportunities.

Her advice to OST professionals is to always keep students at the center of the work. When we see and hear students where they are, connecting to each child’s unique story, strengths, and challenges, we can meet their needs and spark their growth.
