Jennifer Atwood, Foundation Communities
This month's Staff Spotlight is Jennifer Atwood! Jennifer is the Data and Operations Coordinator for the Education Department at Foundation Communities, where she’s creating opportunities for Learning Centers staff and students to showcase their creativity while learning.
Jennifer's path to youth development came from a season of change. After giving birth to her youngest children, she found herself burnt out from a previous career in the medical field and ready for something new. Her love for kids and her joy in watching them grow and find themselves drew her into this work, and she hasn't looked back.
One of Jennifer's proudest accomplishments is creating a way for Foundation Communities' Learning Centers to display their creativity collectively for staff and the community to see. Four times a year, the Learning Centers now participate in designated activities, including a Mexican Heritage art display, the annual LC Pumpkin book decorating contest in October, the Turkey in Disguise contest, and a Black History Month Celebration.
These opportunities give Learning Centers and students a chance to showcase their creativity while learning. Looking ahead, Jennifer hopes to continue seeing the program grow and would love to incorporate job training and coaching for teens.
Jennifer's message to fellow OST professionals is to support your staff just as much as you support your kids. In her words, "Set the standard for your kids and staff and expect nothing less. Remember, someone is always watching!"
