Flory Mejia, Armstrong Music School
This month’s Staff Spotlight is Flory Mejia! Flory is on the faculty of Armstrong Music School, where she’s an early childhood and Spanish immersion educator.
After losing her parents when she was young, Flory found a healing path in serving children in the community. She devotes her time and energy to giving all her students the support, help, and kindness she needed herself as a child.
One of Flory’s most moving personal moments was the first time she had a full Spanish immersion class of 12 students and their educators. It was a “wow” moment for her, especially because students and parents both gave her glowing reviews. “I felt so accomplished when I heard their good comments about the class and how much they enjoyed it,” she said. “That day, I thought ‘let’s go for more.’ “ She’s been going for more ever since.
Flory’s message to other OST educators is In her own words, “The process is hard but the exhilaration is priceless.” The support and education of young people shapes the future.
