Afterschool Archery & Nature Club Instructor, Camp Fire Central Texas

Position Title: Archery & Nature Club Instructor | Afterschool

Location: Austin, Texas | Locations across Austin (Westlake, South/Central Austin, plus one Montessori school)

Employment Type: Part-time | Afternoon shifts available Monday-Friday - 2:45-4:00pm

Salary Range: $20.00 - $21.00 per hour

Camp Fire Central Texas helps young people build confidence, resilience, and a lifelong connection to the natural world through outdoor experiences and environmental education. Our programs use nature, outdoor skills, and hands-on exploration as a way for young people to discover their strengths and develop a sense of belonging.

While technically within Austin city limits, our camp operates in a wooded waterfront park setting within Emma Long Metropolitan Park on the west side of Austin, about 30 minutes from downtown. Staff spend their days outdoors leading activities such as kayaking, archery, nature exploration, and outdoor games.

Position Overview

Camp Fire Central Texas is looking for part-time afterschool instructors to lead our Nature & Archery Club programs for 1st-5th grade students across Austin ISD & Eanes ISD (Westlake area). If you're passionate about working with youth, outdoor learning, STEM, and creating engaging experiences that help children build confidence and new skills, we invite you to apply. Responsibilities

  • Teach and engage students in archery safety, range rules, and whistle commands

  • Create a fun, welcoming, engaging space for your students.

  • Maintain a safe and clean classroom consistent with state licensing requirements.

  • Use a variety of teaching methods to meet the needs of students, including structured lessons, active listening, group work, etc.

  • Provide feedback to students regarding their progress and provide opportunities for improvement.

  • Communicate with Program Manager regarding classroom successes, behavioral issues, and opportunities to improve curriculum or layout.

  • Attend weekly or bi-weekly meetings with Program Manager to discuss upcoming curriculum.

  • Attend professional development courses and trainings as required.

  • Be flexible in the role, by also serving as a Nature Club Instructor (much more activity/curriculum based)

Experience

Experience with camps, recreation programs, youth activities, or outdoor programs is helpful but not required.​ College students and individuals interested in education, youth development, outdoor recreation, or environmental programs are especially encouraged to apply.

  • Previous experience in archery preferred.

  • At least 1 year of classroom experience.

  • Strong understanding of classroom management preferred.

  • Good understanding of English language skills preferred.

  • Experience speaking Spanish or working with Spanish speaking children.

  • Good understanding of basic reading and writing skills.

Timeline

There will be a mandatory USA Archery Certification and training period. Half of

trainings are paid, the rest will be reimbursed at the end of your semester or term

with us. We will report to our schools the week of August 31st to begin our

afterschool programming.
